As the world health community continues its forced march to combat and contain the coronavirus in humans, a new study has emerged from Oregon State University suggesting compounds derived from hemp, which is legal in all 50 states, shows the ability of hemp-derived compounds to prevent the entry of the coronavirus into the human body.
Long a source of food and fiber, legal hemp extracts have been routinely added to mainstream cosmetics, and both animal and human foodstuffs and have been shown to have a good safety profile in humans.
Such appears to be the case for hemp extracts CBGA, cannabigerolic acid, and CBDA, cannabidiolic acid, from which compounds THC-0 and Delta-8 are derived, the activators in the new hemp-based Piff Stixs pre-rolls now being offered legally in all USA states.
According to a Oregon State University report, hemp-derived compounds CGBA and CBDA, the basis for Piff Stixs THC-0 and Delta-8 pre-rolls, bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, “blocking a critical step in the process the virus uses to infect people.”
The study, lead by Oregon State’s Richard van Breeman, and which has been published in the Journal of Natural Products, appear to bear out claims related to the efficacy of Piff Stixs, and its THC-0 and Delta-8-based canna pre-rolls, as another tool in the COVID-19 battle.
The study’s research showed “the hemp compounds were equally effective against variants of SARS-CoV-2, including variant B.1.1.7, which was first detected in the United Kingdom, and variant B.1.351, first detected in South Africa.”
Now to get a sense of the science behind Piff Stixs and its THC-0 and Delta-8 based canna pre-rolls, think of the oft-depicted SARS-CoV-2 virus with its crown-shaped protrusions. On its outer surface it features 4 RNA strands that encode its four main structure proteins – spike, envelope, membrane and nucleocapsid – as well as other nonstructural proteins and “accessory” proteins according to van Breeman.
“Any part of the infection and replication cycle (of the virus) is a potential target for antiviral intervention, and the connection of the spike protein’s receptor binding domain to the human cell surface receptor ACE2 is a critical step in that cycle,” he said. “That means cell entry inhibitors, like the acids from hemp, could be used to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection, and also to shorten infections by preventing virus particles from infecting human cells. They bind to the spike proteins so those proteins can’t bind to the ACE2 enzyme, which is abundant on the outer membrane of endothelial cells in the lungs and other organs.”
Van Breeman, Ruth Muchiri of the Linus Pauling Institute and the College of Pharmacy, and 5 scientist colleagues invented a novel mass spectrometry protocol to identify the two cannabinoid acids from which Piff Stixs canna pre-roll activators THC-0 and Delta-8 are derived.
This process sought to identify drugs that would target the coronavirus spike protein. In addition to hemp, the protocol included the screening of a range of botanicals such as wild yam, hops (used in beer production) and licorice, all of which are used as dietary supplements.
Subsequent research indicated CMGA and CBDA prevented infection of human tissue cells by the coronavirus spike protein and prevented entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells. Its these exact hemp derivatives that form the basis for Piff Stixs hemp pre-rolls and its proprietary THC-0 and delta 8 activators.
“These compounds can be taken orally and have a long history of safe use in humans,” van Breemen said. “They have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2. CBDA and CBGA are produced by the hemp plant as precursors to CBD and CBG, which are familiar to many consumers. However, they are different from the acids and are not contained in hemp products.”
What does this study mean to consumers of hemp and CBD-based products? Well, first it’s important to note van Breeman’s contention that “CBDA and CGBA … are different from CBD and CBG …. and are not contained in hemp products.”
As such, these compounds, and the THC-0 and Delta-8 compounds found in Piff Stixs Canna Pre-rolls must be carefully formulated under controlled laboratory conditions. To generate the THC-0 molecule, a highly-flammable compound called acetic anhydride is added to THC molecules. The process involves a series of extractions that begin with hemp, the low-THC cannabis plant made Federally legal in 2018.
First, CBD is extracted from raw hemp. Then Delta-8 THC is extracted from the CBD. Finally, acetic anhydride is added to the Delta-8 THC molecules to make THC-O acetate.
In addition to their Covid protection attributes, Piff Stixs THC-0 and Delta-8 infused pre-rolls pack a potent kick. However, unlike its cannabis cousins, the effect of Piff Stixs THC-0 and Delta-8 infused pre-rolls requires it to be fully digested within the body to be fully known to the user, an attribute which has lead researchers to suspect THC-0 to be what’s known as a “prodrug.”
Thus, with all its potential, users of these hemp-derived THC-O and Delta-8 nutritional supplements should take a cautionary approach to acquiring and ingesting them. And, while it’s possible to buy THC-0 online, unless it’s from a lab using pharmaceutical-grade purity refinement, which is the case with Piff Stixs canna THC-0 and Delta-8 pre-rolls, you could be throwing the dice with your health.
In short, stay with THC-0 and Delta-8 products and pre-rolls from a producer such as Piff Stixs, which is dedicated to producing high-grade products under controlled laboratory protocols.
And be aware that THC-0 is up to 3 times more potent than its cannabis cousins.
Piff Stixs THC-0 and Delta-8 canna pre-rolls can offer you all the covid-preventing benefits this early-stage research from OSU contends possible. And Piff Stixs canna pre-rolls are also fun … and legal. Just take it slow until you better understand how Piff Stixs THC-0 Delta-8 pre-rolls effect your metabolism.
